Excellence in law. Humanity in practice.
We are a law firm built on the belief that legal excellence and genuine compassion belong together.
Matas Legal (pronounced "May-tas” Legal) was created to offer thoughtful, strategic, trauma-informed advocacy & investigations. We have three primary areas of focus:
-
We act for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence in civil litigation and other proceedings.
We advise on intimate partner violence claims in the context of family law proceedings.
-
We act for regulated professionals in complaint matters and in civil litigation.
-
We conduct workplace and/or human rights investigations on behalf of institutions.
We also provide independent legal advice in a variety of contexts, to individuals, Boards, and Regulators.

Matas Legal is located on the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples. This land is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. As a law firm committed to reconciliation, we specifically acknowledge that Toronto and the GTA are covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississauga and Chippewa bands. We are grateful to have the privilege of working on these lands.
